We are so proud to welcome new members to the Multitude team. Read on to learn more about Maddie and Aarthi, and congratulate founding member Julia on her new role.

Maddie Wasson is Multitude’s new Social Media & Marketing Manager. She will be helping us spread the word about our shows, resources, and projects in more ways than ever!

Maddie earned a Gender Studies degree from Georgetown University in May 2022, then made her way to The Big Apple and began her career in social media at Wonder Media Network. She now spends her time doing freelance social media work for a range of clients, including her newest addition — Multitude! Maddie is so excited to be working with Multitude, and admires their dedication to creating community around incredible content.

Aarthi Ganapathy is also joining as our Podcast Business Fellow, helping us with growth strategy efforts and business partnerships.

Aarthi is a University of Washington (Seattle) grad, and an NYC-based professional with prior finance experience and an arsenal of brunch recommendations. She is excited to work on growth and partnerships at Multitude. Aarthi will be at the Yale School of Management starting fall 2023.

Julia Schifini, a founding member of Multitude and a longtime editor, producer, and assistant director of Multitude shows, is also taking on additional responsibilities as our Community Manager! Nobody knows our community better, and we’re honored to entrust her with this backbone of our business.

Julia is a historian, voice actor, sound designer, and lover of all fancy foods. She is a co-host and producer of Spirits, a co-host of Join the Party, and the Community Manager of Multitude. She loves world-building, professional wrestling, fancy cheese, and all things creepy and cool.

Podcasting is a team sport, and we could not be happier to be growing ours. Please join us in welcoming Aarthi and Maddie to the Multitude fold, and in congratulating Julia!

It's the MultiCrew Drive!

On October 1, 2017, Amanda registered the domain name “multitude.productions.” That was the first step of launching a business where podcasters could make a sustainable living on their own terms. Six years later, we’ve built something pretty special: a resilient, independent media business that gives audio creators the tools to thrive. And we’re not stopping anytime soon.

In the next few months, Multitude will be launching a new member show, throwing open our metaphorical doors (👀), announcing live shows in cities we’ve never performed in before, and releasing even more free resources for up-and-coming creators. And we believe 2024 will be our year. We need your help to make our future plans even bigger and better. The truth is, Multitude exists because of the support of listeners like you.

The best way you can support Multitude is joining the MultiCrew: our membership program that lets you, our listeners, help to fund new work from Multitude and get exclusive perks. That’s why, from now until October 1st, we are running the MultiCrew Drive! We’re putting TWO WEEKS ASIDE to highlight the ways your support makes a difference to us at Multitude and how that support gets paid back to you, our community!

Will you help us add 100 new and upgrading members to the MultiCrew by October 1?

Here’s how it works:

  • If you join (or rejoin) the MultiCrew, upgrade your tier, or go from a monthly plan to an annual one by October 1, you will get a brand-new “This Mug Supports Conversational Podcasts That Bring People Together” mug. (And if you're already a MultiCrew member and don't want to upgrade or go annual, you can also just buy it at the lowest price we’re allowed to sell it at.)

  • All annual members will get their names inscribed forever on our We Put 2023 On Our Back Plaque which we will look at every day in the Multitude office. If you’re already a MultiCrew member on an annual plan, you’ll be on it! If you switch from monthly to annual by October 1, you’ll be on it! If you join between now and October 1, you’ll be on it too! Annual plans are particularly helpful to us, since we can count on a whole year of support instead of varying month to month. So we want to thank our annual members in particular, at every tier, with this new perk. And don’t worry, we’ll share many many photos.

We’re also donating a portion of any new revenue we raise this month to the North Brooklyn Angels, a local organization that provides free meals in our neighborhood. They started up in Greenpoint around the same time as us, and currently serve more than 1,500 meals each week to our neighbors from eight different locations. We’ll be making a donation for every new or upgrading member during the drive.

We’ll be talking about our jobs at Multitude and what it’s like making shows in 2023 on the podcasts, social media, newsletters, and more! And for all of our Multitude Community—everybody, not just MultiCrew members—we’ll be having a special virtual hangout with Multitude hosts and staff to wrap up the Drive. All you have to do is sign up for our free Discord server, then come celebrate with us!

For as little as $5 a month, you can help support Multitude, and get exclusive audio content, including our weekly friendly debate podcast, Head Heart Gut, and our brand new monthly review podcast, The MultiCrew Review! We also offer annual plans with a special discount - get 2 months for free when you sign up for the year.

If you’ve ever enjoyed one of our podcasts, laughed along with us at one of our jokes, looked at something a little differently after hearing an interview, made a friend through our shows, or felt more confident in yourself as a creator or a person, I hope you consider becoming a MultiCrew member.

So, 100 new and upgrading and switched-from-monthly-to-annual members. Two weeks. Many many mugs and one big ol’ plaque to engrave.

I think we can do this!

From deadly diseases to ancient sewers to forensic toxicology, Sam and Deboki embrace the messiness of science and its place in the past, present, and future. Tiny Matters releases new episodes every Wednesday.

The podcast was first launched in January 2022 by The American Chemical Society, a non-profit scientific organization that connects and advances chemistry and the broader scientific community. It won a Signal Award for Best Science Podcast in 2024, the same month that cohost Sam Jones won an Eric and Wendy Schmidt Award for Excellence in Science Communications from the National Academies of Science. This new partnership with Multitude Podcasts, a collective of professional audio creators building community through podcasts, will usher in additional reach and resources to support this extraordinary podcast.

“Tiny Matters is an award-winning podcast, recognized by both audio and scientific bodies,” says Eric Silver, Head of Development at Multitude Podcasts. “We're excited to continue to enhance what makes the show great and support Sam, Deboki, and ACS with our expertise in sustainable production and community building.”

“I first learned about Multitude a few years ago and was struck by not just the quality of the podcasts in the collective, but the incredible bond between listeners and creators,” says Sam Jones, executive producer and co-host of Tiny Matters. “I am beyond excited for Tiny Matters to be part of this community of enthusiastic, smart, compassionate people who love podcasts as much as I do.”

Co-host Deboki Chakravarti says, “One of my favorite things about the podcast world has been getting to meet and work with really creative and kind people, so I’m really excited to join the Multitude community to learn from these amazing podcasters and their listeners!”

New Show: Attach Your Résumé

We are so excited to announce Multitude’s newest podcast: Attach Your Résumé!

This show brings you interviews with online creators about how their jobs work and how they got there. Hear the personal stories behind seismic events in digital media and learn what concrete steps we can take to build a sustainable media landscape.

Hosted by longtime podcasters and business owners Eric Silver and Amanda McLoughlin, Attach Your Résumé proves that the best credential for deciding the future of media is actually making stuff.

“I've worked in media since my first internship at Gothamist 10 years ago, and I wanted to work in it even longer before that,” Eric says. “There's so much experience and so many stories that haven't gotten passed down to me, whether because of terrible bosses, or colleagues getting laid off, or NDA signatures that will never let them out. With Attach Your Résumé, We're trying to capture the stories of the digital media industry so we don't make the mistakes of the past and let the incredible podcast companies, subscription-owned websites, streams, YouTube channels, and newsletters thrive in the future.”

New episodes every Thursday until we run out of episodes and have to go make more.

Listen now! We’re on: RSS, PocketCasts, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

New episodes will also be posted to this blog, and linked to on the show’s webpage.

Wow if Multitude

Multitude is proud to announce the first podcast to join our podcast collective via our Open Doors program: Wow if True!

Multitude is proud to announce the first podcast to join our podcast collective via our Open Doors program: Wow if True!

Wow If True is your one-stop internet culture shop, explaining how what’s happening online shapes the real world. And we’re the internet experts and real-life besties to unravel it: tech culture journalist Amanda Silberling and science fiction author slash attorney Isabel J. Kim, Esq. More importantly, we’re the only podcast that will mention Neopets and horizontal mergers in the same episode. New episode every other Wednesday. Subscribe now in PocketCasts, Apple, or Spotify.

Eric Silver, Head of Development at Multitude, said, “We're incredibly excited to have Amanda and Isabel join Multitude. Tech podcasts have been a backbone of the podcasting landscape for years, and the combination of Amanda's journalistic prowess and the dual-wielding of lawyering and creativity of Isabel brings a force to our collective shows. This is the first of many for our Open Doors initiative, expanding the power of community that Multitude has pushed in podcasting for more than 5 years.”

Cohost Isabel J. Kim is an award-winning science fiction author and award-less leveraged finance attorney. Isabel knows what the Nickelodeon slime tastes like, but has not tasted the slime. And cohost Amanda Silberling is a senior writer at TechCrunch, reporting on the intersection of tech and culture. Her favorite baseball player is Brandon Marsh.

Please welcome Wow if True to Multitude, and cohosts Isabel and Amanda to the collective!

Congrats to Multitude co-founder Eric Silver on his recent title change to Head of Development!

Congrats to Multitude co-founder Eric Silver on his recent title change to Head of Development!

Eric’s role has grown and expanded far beyond his original purview as Head of Creative. For years now he has led our efforts to develop new work, build new partnerships, identify business opportunities, and refine our business to keep it sustainable and enjoyable for everyone involved. Five and a half years after taking the leap to become Multitude’s first full-time worker, we have him to thank not only for our continued existence but our thriving.

This new title reflects how central Eric is to the Multitude you’ve come to know and love, as well as the exciting new work he’s bringing us this year: our Open Doors program, a seven-city tour, representing Multitude at an industry summit later this week, and much more.

Please join us in congratulating Eric on his new title!

New Production Partner: Defector Media!

Multitude and Defector Media are stoked to announce a new production and advertising partnership for the weekly sports show The Distraction, hosted by Drew Magary and David Roth.

Multitude and Defector Media are stoked to announce a new production and advertising partnership for the weekly sports show The Distraction, hosted by Drew Magary and David Roth.

We are long time fans of Defector’s work at here at Multitude. We’ve been reading the work of these writers for years, and look towards Defector’s employee-owned subscription model as the future of media. We also find a lot of similarities between our two main media; they are doing for blogging what Multitude strives to do for podcasting. The Distraction also fits the Multitude content mandate of bringing complexity, humor, and critical thought to the things that we love.

“It’s a dream to work on a show that I’ve been listening to since the first episode dropped,” said Eric Silver, our Head of Creative, who will be producing for The Distraction in this new partnership. “Drew and Roth are not only incredibly smart and sharp hosts, they have already shown to be generous creative collaborators. I am lucky that I get to bring The Distraction into its next phase, which really just looks likecontinuing to support Drew and Roth in doing what they do best.”

"Defector is very excited to be partnering with Multitude on The Distraction podcast going forward,” says Tom Ley, Editor-in-Chief of Defector. “We're glad to work with another independent, worker-owned media company and to collaborate with people - Amanda, Eric, and the whole Multitude team - who deeply understand Defector's values and voice. I know that the show's production and ad sales are in good hands, unless they encourage Drew to start singing mash-ups again, at which point we may have to reconsider.”

New episodes of The Distraction are out now and will drop every Thursday. Fans of Multitude who are new to Defector, check out their written work on the site! If you’re a Defector reader new to Multitude, check out the many shows we produce on our website.

The Multitude Extension School is Open!

Looking to build your audio skills that are focused on the podcasting industry? Been podcasting for a few years and want to get your show over the hump? Why is my microphone making that sound? We’re here to help!

The Multitude Extension School for Folks Who Want to Podcast More and Better (MESFWTPMAB for short) is a collection of four-week seminars taught by the podcast experts at Multitude that provide skills and guidance to level up audio knowledge.

People may say that podcasting is easy, but no one describes how exactly to get one going, how to grow, and how to avoid the complicated pitfalls that might stall the project. Our targeted classes will give you specific knowledge for what feels like unanswerable questions.

You’ll learn from weekly instruction, hands-on homework, and lots of valuable feedback from your instructor and classmates in our MESFWTPMAB online classroom! And Eric was an English teacher, so he has a whole degree in PRAXIS and PEDAGOGY.

We’re starting out with three classes in our first round:

  • Sustainable Podcasting: Refining Structure and Workflow So Your Show Works With You by Eric Silver

  • Podcast Mixing and Mastering for Non-Engineers by Brandon Grugle

  • How to Make a Living as a Digital Creator by Amanda McLoughlin

Classes cost $145 for four weekly 90-minute live workshops (which will also be recorded in case you can’t make it), access to a Google Classroom forum, many worksheets and slides, and an extremely official digital certificate. We are also offering scholarships for all classes.

Learn more about the dates, curriculum, and technical details—or just register today!!—by clicking the button below. We can’t wait to get started!
