About Us

Multitude is a podcast production company dedicated to making excellent shows and building communities around them.

We’ve spent the last decade helping creators, cooperatives, and values-led businesses make podcasts that change lives online and off. Sustainable, impactful, and deeply human shows are our jam.

And we practice what we preach with original shows that have amassed millions of downloads, thousands of paying members, hundreds of live shows, and even a few podcast logo tattoos.

The Collective

The podcast collective Multitude was created in 2017 by Amanda McLoughlin as a way to support a group of independent podcasts as they grew strong communities around their shows. As those shows rose up in the industry together, the hosts shared knowledge and resources to launch new shows and welcome new members to the collective.

Multitude’s shows share an enthusiastic, welcoming, grounded perspective on their subject matter. We are driven to share the things we love with the world, particularly with those who haven’t experienced them before. All Multitude shows emphasize compassion, learning, and community. We try to make the world better with every episode we publish.

We are an independent collective, meaning that we are not owned by a larger media company or platform. Our member shows are each owned by their hosts, and Multitude provides support by way of ad sales, marketing, event planning, and business management. We provide similar services for our clients and partners, helping them make a living as independent podcasters. Our membership program, the MultiCrew, allows our community to fund our new work and continued growth directly.

We are a fully equipped production company that also provides support in podcast development, post-production, monetization, ad sales, distribution, and marketing to clients ranging from solo indie producers to Fortune 500 companies. We offer flexible pricing to suit each client’s needs, including hourly rates, monthly retainers, project fees, and commission-based ad sales.

Our approach to podcasting is medium-specific, grounded in a deep understanding of podcasting and of each show’s individual genre. The clients we love to work with share our respect and enthusiasm for this medium’s artistic possibilities and community-building potential.

Free Resources

Many of our staff are self-taught podcasters who relied on other podcasters’ guides, blog posts, and interviews to learn how to create great shows. We know how valuable it can be to hear how others make a living in a space you aspire to work in! So it is our priority to help fellow podcasters launch and grow their own shows. We frequently publish new resources and templates, including recordings of the workshops we lead at conferences.

We also set aside staff time per month to provide free consulting for members of historically excluded groups in audio. Request a meeting here if that applies to you!

We firmly believe that a rising tide lifts all ships. If you’re just getting started in podcasting: welcome. It’s a great time to join.

The Name

“Multitude” is a reference to a poem by Walt Whitman, who wrote in Long Island and New York City throughout the 1800s. He pushed artistic boundaries with self-published works like Leaves of Grass, from which the quote above comes.

Whitman saw every person as beautiful, contradictory, and interdependent, and strove to open doors for the artists that would come after him. His writing celebrates all parts of life: high, low, ordered, disordered, natural, fabricated, human and animal. He called himself “one of the roughs, a kosmos, disorderly, fleshly, and sensual, no sentimentalist, no stander above men or women or apart from them, no more modest than immodest.“

We believe every person is worth loving and that we all contain worlds. Our goals in podcasting are informed by this ethos: to entertain while educating; to advance nuance, accessibility, and diversity; to celebrate our peers; to push artistic and technical boundaries; and to leave the world better than we found it for creators coming up after us.
